African Mask Painting

Today Buxlow school along with nursery children have been learning how to paint African masks.

Children have been learning that every colour has a meaning, e.g white – wisdom, Green – earth, blue – innocence , red – life, gold –  fortune.

Mrs Webster from Education Group has been teaching wonderful things about Africa. Those masks are made out of Albizia wood (spelled albesia in Hawaii) from a tree called miracle tree.

Nursery children were engaged doing the activity and showed good listening skills and revealing great enthusiasm  to learn and do it!

Due to its rapid growth rate, albizzia wood is a frequently used product. Down style masks are from Ivory Coast – Africa.
